From Japan to Germany

Zensho Shimokawa

Zensho Shimokawa, Japanese landscape gardener

 

  • Born in 1970, grew up in Fukuoka/Japan
  • For 5 years trained as a gardener at the gardening company Sonezoen in Kyoto / Japan. The works' focus centred on the gardens of the Tenryu-ji, Tofuku-ji and Myoshin-ji Zen temples in Kyoto as well as on some further smaller Zen temples, which allowed an intensive examination of the classic Japanese garden design.
  • 1998-2001 apprenticeship in gardening and landscaping in Freising, Germany
  • 2006 examination for master craftsman's certificate of gardening and landscaping in Landshut, Germany


Since 2005 ordained monk in the Soto Zen tradition und student of Fumon Nakagawa Roshi / abbot of the Daihizan Fumon-ji Zen Monastery in Eisenbuch, Germany.
